NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY – JUST SHOW UP & PLAY

What is Broomball

A little of ice hockey, a little of field hockey, some soccer, and A LOT OF FUN!

In the early 1900’s, Canadian street car workers used a small soccer ball and corn brooms to invent a new game. They called it broomball. The sport made its way to the US, and by the 1960s organized leagues were forming in Minnesota. The first state tournament took place in 1966. As broomball’s popularity spread to other Midwestern states, game rules evolved and team sizes were reduced from the original ten to six players. Today, broomball is played with aluminum sticks fitted with plastic, fan-shaped ends used to slide a grapefruit-sized ball across the ice.

What equipment do I need

The following equipment is recommended:

Helmet – Elbow/Knee Pads – Shin Pads/Guards – Sneakers or Broomball Shoes

The Carolina Ice Palace has 24 brooms along with some helmets, knee and elbow pads.

For official broomball gear check out <a href="http://www.broomball.com/"target="blank">BROOMBALL.COM or <a href="http://www.midwestbroomball.com/"target="blank">MIDWESTBROOMBALL.COM

When do we play and how can I get involved

This Sunday from 2:00pm-3:15pm, we will be holding a pick-up game. Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to attend. Cost is $10 per person. Just show up around 1:45pm and sign in at the front desk. We hope to have enough interest so that we can organize a Charleston Broomball League. Please pass the word on if you know of anyone that you think would be interested in playing broomball.
